Our Shona shows them

Kedron-Wavell hockey player Shona Lynch wouldn’t know what to do with herself without sport in her life.

The 16-year-old plays both the indoor and outdoor versions of the game and has recently returned from helping Queensland to a second place at the under-18 indoor state titles.
'I feel very proud to represent my state ...  even though we lost it didn’t really matter,’ Shona said.
``It was very good. A good experience to have under your belt.’
She said indoor hockey tended to be a bit tougher in the cramped surrounds of the indoor arena.
Indoor’s a lot faster, it’s higher intensity ...  you just just have to run your guts out,’ Shona said.

She said speed and endurance were her strengths, but they needed further improvement if she wanted state representation in field hockey in the future.
Shona, who was aiming for game time in Division 2 women’s hockey for Kedron-Wavell this year,  credited Division 1 coach Nikki Taylor for helping her game.
`She has a lot of knowledge to give and you could just sit and listen to her for ages,’’ she said.

Shona has already notched up 10 years at the club and started the game after picking up one of her mum Sheila’s hockey sticks at an early age. `She didn’t ever force me into playing any sport but i saw her old hockey stick and had a play around with it and decided i’d try it,’’ she said. Sheila said there were down times but he daughter had always come out stronger.
`She wants to do well and she’s very committed and determined,’’ she said
